Consumers are always vulnerable to markets and marketing tactics. They easily fall prey to shady marketing, tall claims, shoddy products and misleading advertising. The Consumer Protection Act of 1986 had outlived its purpose of aiding consumers as the market scenario has changed completely in the last 3 decades.
The passage of the new CPA 2019 is therefore very good news for consumer protection as it addresses most requirements of consumer needs. While it has preventive clauses, it also provides suitable remedial actions. These will act as deterrent to product and service providers who have to comply with the new regulations. Without going into minor details one can say that statutory CP authority, product liability, easy complaint filing, jurisdiction flexibility, higher penalties, celebrity endorsement compliance etc are some of the salient features of the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
With the passage of the Bill, consumers will now have adequate protection in the market during and after purchasing goods and services. Thank you once again for all your support!
