Green Action Week 2018 -Plantation Drive- 8th September 2018

As part of its ongoing activities on the theme of community sharing in Green Action Week, 2018 Consumer Voice significantly contributed and collaborated in tree plantation drive in New Delhi on 8th September 2018. This drive was organized as a response to increasing pollution in Delhi.
As we all know air pollution in Delhi has reached epidemic proportions andit is now labelled as one of the world’s most polluted cities. Breathing in Delhi is an everyday struggle. According to the data released by the government of Delhi, over the last 13 years, one tree is being cut every hour which has worsened the air quality.
Recently there was a proposal for felling of 16,500 trees for the redevelopment of some of south Delhi colonies. Nearly 4 lakh trees are lost to cremations every year in Delhi’s burning ghats. Each traditional cremation uses 400-500 kg wood, requiring over 3.6 crore kg wood equivalent and wood-based traditional funerals constitute more than 95% of cremations in Delhi. Environment destruction caused by humans is a global problem, and this is continuing unabated every day.
Team members of Consumer Voice along withstudents, teachers, staff members of Delhi Transportation Corporation and Delhi Government Employees planted saplings at Nehru Place Terminal Depot and Kalkaji Depot, New Delhi.
Plantation drive which started at 9.30 in the morning at Kalkaji depot was on till late in the afternoon.Students, academicians and other members participated with posters, banners and placardswith the message on environment protection. More than 100 saplings were planted during this drive. The employees of Delhi Transport Corporation promised to take care and monitor the growth of the saplings and help make this drive a successful one and Delhi a pollution free city.
