Our State Partner, Citizens Awareness Group, Chandigarh organized a peace march ‘Walk for Safer Roads’ on the eve of World Day of Remembrance (WDR) for road accident victims in sector-17, Chandigarh on November16, 2016.
The walk was also attended by the Mayor of Chandigarh,Shri Arun Sood. He appreciated the initiative for the road safety. Shri Eish Singhal, SSP,Traffic & Security sent appreciation letter regarding road safety. People from all walks of life supported the demand for Safe Roads by participating in this Walk. More than 80 students of NSS Wing from DAV College, Chandigarh, several road accident victims and members of Chandigarh Journalist association also took part in the march.
Haryana is among top 13 states which saw most number of accidents in 2015. Till August 2016 there was 7310 accidents occurred in the state while 3243 injured and 6890 deaths recorded.
At the culmination of the walk a joint memorandum to Transport Minister of Haryana was submitted to demand for enactment of legislation to make road safer.
