Fullfill India‘s pledge to UN to eliminate almost 200 deaths per day by 2020 on Indian Roads

Consumer VOICE along with its state partners organized Road Safety Week from 1 to 7 February on the theme of 5 Days-5 Pledges. This event aimed towards sensitization of various stakeholders including public, media, and policy makers to garner support for early passage of MVA Bill 2017.

We focused on five risk factors during Road Safety week from 1 st  -7 th  Feb 2018:

1. Seat Belt & Child Restraints
2. Speeding
3. Helmet
4. Drink and Driving
5. Electronic Braking System & Air bags

Various workshops were successfully organized by each state partner in the states of Assam (Guwhati), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow), National Capital Region (Noida), Chandigarh and Haryana (Panchkula)  for five (5) days by organising one workshop each day besides the Press Meet. There were interactions with various stakeholders such as students, consumers, victims,  civil society organizations, identified champions, media persons, traffic police etc  focusing on five risk factors, road safety in India and the need for early passage of MVA Bill. A good number of participants and media persons came forward to support the initiative of Consumer VOICE and very good response was received both from the print and online media.

Uttar Pradesh

Consumer VOICE in collaboration with its state partner Consumer Guild Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh organized Road Safety Week program from February 1 to 7, 2018. The Programme was held at different academic institutions which included participation of students, young professionals, representatives of NGOs, and teachers. The week long event was marked by prominent guests such as professors, motivational teachers to share their views on subject matters. Around 500 participants attended the programme.

In Q & A session Law students were eager to know the key provisions in Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill while some also shared their views on topic. The campaign concluded with the press meet which witnessed participation of Ashutosh Soti, President of Shubham Soti Foundation; Maj. Ashish Chaturvedi; Pratyush Chaubey, Advocate, High Court; Abhishek Srivastava, Chairman Consumer Guild, Ms. Rinki Sharma, Head Projects Consumer VOICE New Delhi; along with prominent media personalities.

Chandigarh & Panchkula

Our state partner Citizen Awareness Group in collaboration with Consumer VOICE organized Road Safety Week program from February 1 to 7, 2018. The programme was held at different academic institutions and includes participation of students, young Professionals, representatives of NGOs and teachers. Among the prominent guests and speakers were Mrs. Kataria, Mrs. Cheena Gambhir Head Professor, Government Girls College Sector 10, Chandigarh who spoke about various risk factors. The day started with welcoming our chief guest Mr. Jagwinder Singh, Paralympic cyclist. The event was attended by 50 media reporters of
various news papers of Chandigarh. An interactive media meet was organized which saw participation of Mr. Jagwinder (Chief Guest), Mr. Hemant Upadhaya (Advisor Consumer Voice) and Mr. Surinder Verma (Chairman, Citizens Awareness Group).A question-answer session was also organised.

In Panchkula the road safety week was held in the presence of total five hundred participants including Resident Welfare Association, students, professionals. The prominent guests included Mrs. Upinder Walia, Mayor Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, NGO workers Mrs. Archan Puri and Mr. Nayyar, Mrs. Sushma Khanna (MD Women welfare Trust) who spoke on road safety rules and stressed the need of wearing helmet and seat belt.

The press conference was held in the presence of Vivek Atrey, Former Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula and Mr. Hemanth Upadhyay from Consumer VOICE.


Consumers’ Legal Protection Forum (CLPF), Assam with support of Consumer VOICE, Delhi organized an Annual Road Safety Week on the theme of “5 Days 5 Pledges- for Road Safety Week from 1 to 7 February at Guwahati. Awareness program were organized at Ramanujan Academy, Narengi Anchalik Mahavidyalay, B.R.M. Govt. Law College, and at S.R. Academy. Each day there were awareness on a different risk factors of road safety i.e. Helmet, Drunk Driving, Seat Belt and Over Speeding. In each program the members of CLPF gave a vivid power point presentation on the aforesaid topic. Videos on the topic were also screened in each program. There were overwhelming responses from Students, Teachers and other audiences in the question answer and open forum session. CLPF distributed the brochure and subject related study materials among the participants. Road Safety Week was concluded with a Media Meet at Guwahati Press Club on 6 th February which was largely attended Media Persons from Print, Electronic and Web media houses of Guwahati. Participants interacted on the theme of Road Safety. The meet was attended by the prominent guests including Nava Thakuria, Secretary Guwahati Press Club, Ranen Goswami, Eminent Journalist and Dr. Roy Choudhury, Retired Professor. More than four hundred participants attended the road safety week programme.

Focus on road safety

National Capital Region

Consumer VOICE along with its state partner Bhartiya Manav Kalyan Samiti organized Road Safety Week programme in National Capital Region Noida and Ghaziabad from February 1 to 7, 2018. This programme connected people on this crucial issue of road safety involving 5 risk Factors namely: Seat Belt & Child Restraints, Speeding, Helmet, Drink and Driving, Electronic Braking System & Air Bags. Around 350 participants attended the event including residents, students and professionals.

The prominent guests were Shri N.P. Singh President FONRWA (Federation of Noida Resident Welfare Association) President of Bharat Vikas Parishad, President of Surajmal Jat Mahasabha, Chairman Nagar Palika Parishad and President of Federation  of Noida  Residents Welfare Associations.

In the Press conference local and national newspaper representatives were present. The meet aimed to discuss the need for the early passage of Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill 2017 to save lives on Indian roads. Shri S.C.Sharma President Bhartiya Manav Kalyan Samiti, Shri N.P.Singh President FONRWA (Federation of Noida Resident Welfare Association) and Ms. Ekta Purohit, Consumer VOICE shared their views on subject matter.
